Segments Explained & How To Create Them

Segments are customisable groups of Wi-Fi users, filtered according to some attribute. They are used to provide more detailed breakdowns of user behaviour


Creating a Segment:


  1. Go to the Insights portal - https://insights.wireless-social.com/page/0

  2. On the left-hand side panel choose Segments



  1. If you have previously created segments, you will be able to see a list of already created segments. You will be able to EDIT, DUPLICATE and DELETE those segments if needed:


  1. To create a brand new segment > click on ADD SEGMENT in the top right hand side of the page 

  2. Give the Segment a Relevant name EG Males aged 18-40 and Click ADD FILTER

  3. A new option will appear where you will be able to add criteria for this segment EG 

  • 1st filter - Age is less than 40

  • 2nd filter - Age is greater than 18

  • 3rd Filter - Gender is Male



  1. You can also segment using the below options:

  • Operator marketing consent

  • Visit Count

  • Hedgehog voucher Issued *

  • Hedgehog voucher redeemed *

  • Hedgehog Prediction *

  • Facebook page tags


*These segments are useful when you have already run campaigns using our Hedgehog and/or Predictor solutions. Should you require more information, please contact your AM or the CS team.


  1. Once you are happy with your segment > hit the green SAVE button



Once your segments are created, you can use them to create Custom reports. See more information here on creating Custom reports.







Universal Segments


All customers have access to a standard set of universal segments that can’t be changed. These are:


  • All Users - This is every single user that logs into the wifi

  • Gender

  • Standard age brackets

  • Opt-in status
